How do you want to handle this, nicolas? Postpone the final date? I have no idea how the posts disappeared and I don't know a way to get them back.

Tori Amos, 'Cornflake Girl' 19. Elastica, 'Connection' 20. Alice In Chains, 'No Excuses'. Amazing year. 7 albums in my top 100 of all time.
And on top of that, I reckon I only did about half the listening I wanted to do. Drive Like Jehu, Hole, Laika, The Notorious B.I.G., Tori Amos, Aphex Twin, Method Man - I didn't manage to listen to any of those enough to warrant adding them to the list, and others like Soundgarden and Kyuss I didn't listen to at all. Pavement top the list. Crooked Rain had always been my favourite Pavement album, as I never really got Slanted and Enchanted, and I viewed Crooked Rain as 12 bitchin' rock songs, smart, unpretentious, witty, full of nerdy attitude (though I think there's more of that in Wowee Zowee, my provisional #1 for 1995).
Ween is a new addition, thanks Jackson, and I feel how I felt when I first discovered Freak Out! By The Mothers of Invention (though Ween is better). It's fun, it's silly, it's psychedelic, it's spontaneous, it really is just MY type of album.
Promenade has never been higher on my all time list, and is propped up by two utterly stunning songs - The Summerhouse and A Drinking Song. Thank god I finally listened to Pulp and Stereolab, while Blumfeld is a remnant from my wanting to listen to modern day German music (1994 - so modern eh). After Blur there's a significant drop in quality, but Nas' Illmatic would be top 5 in all years from 1990-1993, so 1994 really is the cream of the crop to me. And my birth year too! Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (6th all time!) 2. Ween - Chocolate and Cheese (24th) 3. The Divine Comedy - Promenade (41st) 4.

I forgot that 'My Iron Lung' came out in '94! This will probably change nothing, but I won't be able to live with my picks unless I at least try and change. My new song list would read as this: 1.
Weezer - 'My Name Is Jonas' 2. Radiohead - 'My Iron Lung' 3. Green Day - 'When I Come Around' 4. Beastie Boys - 'Sabotage' 5. Beck - 'Pay No Mind (Snoozer)' 6. Tom Petty - 'Time To Move On' 7.

Nobody objected so i thought it was OK for you. I remember your post in april. You definitely gave us a chance to object. It seemed to me then that there was always an album from a non-UK/US but English-speaking country taking the spot. As I didn't think those countries were the real targets, I agreed with you.
But after my last post I thought about the rule and my reaction to it while I mowed the lawn tonight. My conclusion was that many Swedish artists are sort of caught in the middle of this selection to the final. A while ago we talked about that English is considered a second language for a majority of the people only in the Scandinavian countries and The Netherlands.
And when I thought about it, the Scandinavian countries are probably the only non-anglophone countries where many artists who take songwriting seriously sing in English. Outside anglophone countries and Scandinavia, singing in English usually means that you reach out to fewer people. If Stina Nordenstam had been Spanish she would probably have sung in Spanish and if Family had been Swedish they would probably have sung in English.

For the '00s poll, the non-UK/US rule (place #14) would make no sense, as internet and sites like Pitchfork have made 'alternative' Swedish music acclaimed and popular. There's The Knife, Peter Bjorn and John, The Hives, Jens Lekman, Lykke Li and others. But the '90s were different. Swedish music was synonymous with pop hits - ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base and songwriters for Celine Dion and Backstreet Boys. There were other great artists with a more alternative sound, but although some of them were singing in English, the world showed little interest. But don't take this as I'm saying that the rules should be changed back again.
