My New 'OE Replacement' Turbo Is Off-Center! Yeah, so i'm sure you're like WTF is this dude talking about, right? I just bought a 2005 Legacy GT Limited 2.5l Turbo. I had it two days and the stock turbo blew up on me at 99,500 mi. I ordered another one that said it was an OE Fit for an '04-'07 Interchange, but it seems that the new turbo is more to the left than the stock one, and I have to push the intercooler to the left as well.
The turbo bolted right up, but now. I'm sure you get the picture. I'd say it's off by an inch or an inch and a half.
Is there an easy and cheap fix for this, like a gasket that comes up with a goose neck and goes to the right? The only real problem i'm having is the intercooler inlet into the turbo. PLEASE FRICKEN HELP MEEEEE!! Read this - there is a lot you should check for a failed turbo. Just buying a new one and replacing it is not recommended.

What caused the turbo failure in the first place? Have you removed your banjo bolt filters? Have you replaced the uppipe with a catless uppipe? What did the old turbo look like?
Is there metal in the oil? Is there metal in the oil pan? Did you turn on and drive the car after the turbo failed? 04-07 interchange?: unless I am missing something 05-06s used the VF40. 07-09 used the VF46.
I don't think you can clock the OE VF40 as easily as some after market turbos. (might be a way if you grind a pin) of course the OE VF40 should fit without being reclocked. When I pulled the turbo out there was only one banjo bolt with a big hole in the very bottom of the bolt and a tiny hole up where the threads stop. The old one was bolted to the top of the turbo where there's a bunch of little holes that go into the turbo housing. This is the one I bought.
It's just a little too far to the left of where it should be where it bolts to the intercooler. Which brought on the question of 'clocking' the turbo. I have not started the car since the last turbo blew and I plan on draining, running new oil, draining again, then putting some real good synthetic in it. It takes 5w-30, what type of synthetic should I use?
Rotella t6 in 5w40 is one of the most recommended oils. The Banjo bolt filters are on the engine side - not the turbo side. If you trace the turbo oil line back you should find the filter (there should be one) unless the previous owner removed it. God, what a hassle. I'm so confused and I feel dumb as hell. There's a bolt I took off the top of the turbo upon removing the blown one, and it had a teeny tiny hole in the side, but a hole the size of a deck screw in the bottom. Is that supposed to be there, or somewhere else?

As I removed bolts and lines from the old turbo, I doused them in brake-kleen and industrial parts cleaner to remove any gunky build up. Said banjo bolt had no screen as far as I could see.
